With my parents over during the Easter break, we decided to go back to Amsterdam. The last time I visited the city was more than a year ago, and I had totally forgotten how chaotic it is with all the tourists it receives everyday. And if tourists didn’t provoke enough chaos already, because they are completely unaware of the bike paths, some companies have decided to implement bike tours around the town. It would be fine if people were actually used to ride a bike in busy towns, but that’s not usually the case. Needless to say, chaos is even bigger now.
This time we didn’t visit museums or anything like that. We mostly decided to just wander around the city, getting to know a little bit about it. We ended up by spending the whole morning in one of the main commercial streets and we found a couple of very interesting shops. I wish we could have some of them back home. And we had the best brunch/lunch ever: a delicious and gorgeous apple pie with cream (you can see a picture of it here).
We decided to visit one of the Protestant churches that there is in Amsterdam. I can’t remember the exact name of the church, but is the one located close to the House of Anne Frank (you can see photos of the church below). I must say it was quite disappointing, if we compare it to Catholic churches. I had never been inside a Protestant church so I didn’t know how much they differed. They are architecturally speaking interesting but they really don’t have the same appeal that Catholic churches have.
And lastly, we wandered around Amsterdam’s chinatown. I was going to say it is small but since I’m never been to any other chinatown, I can’t really say that. All the photos that I present here were edited with the programme “pixelmator”.

Eles são simplesmente fantásticos e depressa este tornou-se num dos meus favoritos franchises cinematográficos (honestamente não sei bem o que lhe chamar). Este é um dos filmes pelos os quais tenho estado a aguardar mais. O filme por si só já tinha captado todo o meu interesse, mas quando soube que o Aaron Taylor-Johnson e a Elizabeth Olsen tinham-se juntado ao elenco, a minha curiosidade ainda conseguiu aumentar mais. Agora é esperar que o filme não me desaponte.
Quando Tony Stark tenta avançar com um programa de manutenção de paz, as coisas dão para o torto e os heróis mais poderosos da Terra são postos à prova numa altura em que o destino no planeta está outra vez preso por um fio. Com o aparecimento de um novo vilão, Ultron, cabe aos Avengers impedirem-no de avançar com os seus planos diabólicos, à medida que novas alianças são traçadas.

Até ao momento o filme tem recebido críticas positivas. Ele conta com uma classificação de 76% (com base em 202 críticas) no website de críticas – rottentomatoes. Este website apresenta a seguinte descrição: “exuberant and eye-popping, ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ serves as a suitably satisfying sequel, reuniting its predecessor’s unwieldy cast with a few new additions and a worthy foe”.
E na realidade o filme não me desapontou de todo. Bem há um detalhe que eu mudaria se pudesse, mas ele na realidade não altera em nada a minha opinião geral sobre o filme. Este está bastante bom, tal como os anteriores filmes da MARVEL. Eu gostei especialmente deste enredo pois é de certo modo diferente dos anteriores. Se bem que na realidade o que mais gostei foi do facto de termos acesso à história de algumas das personagens. É bom conhecer o outro lado, mais vulnerável diga-se, dos heróis. Este é um filme repleto de acção como seria de esperar, mas também repleto de momentos hilariantes. Esta é sem dúvida uma característica que eu adoro nestes filmes da MARVEL. Eu vi o filme em 3D e honestamente penso que não vale a pena. Nas partes de acção, em que há coisas e pessoas a “voarem” de um lado para o outro, o 3D realmente vale a pena, mas nas restantes cenas do filme penso que é desnecessário. Aconselho vivamente este filme para quem ainda está indeciso em ir vê-lo.

E hoje é a vez de voltarmos ao mundo da moda. É a primeira vez que estou a apresentar esta casa de moda, mas honestamente já o deveria ter feito à mais tempo. Sem dúvida, uma das minhas colecções favoritas até ao momento. É elegante, delicada e feminina. Mas sem mais demoras, hoje apresento-vos a nova colecção de Primavera/Verão da Chloé.
And today is time to go back to the fashion world. This is the first time that I am presenting this fashion house, but honestly I should have done it a long time ago. This is without a doubt one of my favourite collections so far. It’s graceful, delicate and feminine. But without further ado, today I present you guys the new Chloé‘s Spring/Summer collection.
Chloé is a French fashion house founded in 1952 by Gaby Aghion. This fashion house belongs to the company Richmond Group. Chloé has dressed many celebrities such as Marion Cotillard, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Emma Stone and Clemence Poésy. Apart from its ready-to-wear collection, this fashion house also has collections in the accessories, perfumery and children’s wear departments.
A Chloé é uma casa de moda francesa fundada em 1952 por Gaby Aghion. Esta casa de moda faz agora parte da empresa Richemont Group. A Chloé tem vestido celebridades como Marion Cotillard, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Emma Stone e Clémence Poésy. Para além da sua colecção de pronto-a-vestir, esta casa de moda conta também com colecções de acessórios, perfumes e roupa para crianças.
Algo que claramente se destaca nesta colecção é um maior uso de tons escuros (como o preto e o azul escuro, e até mesmo o castanho). No entanto, as tonalidades mais claras não deixam de estar igualmente presentes (como o azul claro ou o branco). De modo geral, estas são as principais tendências presentes nesta colecção: sandálias de gladiador (presentes em quase todos os conjuntos), transparência (conjuntos 10, 11 e 12), rendilhado (conjunto 8), padrões (conjuntos 7 e 12) e camurça (conjunto 9). Por algum motivo, o vestido da imagem 10 fez-me lembrar automaticamente da Arwen Undómiel, da trilogia Senhor dos Anéis.
Something that clearly stands out from this collection is the bigger use of dark tons (such as black and dark blue, and even brown). However, light tons are still equally present (such as light blue or white). Generally speaking, these are the main trends present in this collection: gladiator sandals (presents in almost all outfits), transparency (outfits 10, 11 and 12), laced pieces of clothing (outfit 8), patterns (outfits 7 and 12) and suede (outfit 9). For some reason, the dress in the picture 10 reminds me a lot of Arwen Undómiel, from the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Não há nada melhor do que acabar um mês e começar outro com sugestões cinematográficas. Mais sugestões irão surgir depois desta. É um género ao qual não costumo dar imensa atenção mas que não me deixa de cativar. O trailer deixou-me sem dúvida com curiosidade em relação ao mesmo. E além do mais, tenho alguma curiosidade em saber como é que o Russell Crowe se saiu como realizador.
“The Water Diviner” conta a história de Joshua Connor, um agricultor australiano que, em 1919, vai à procura dos seus três filhos desaparecidos, que terão sido vistos por uma última vez a combater com os turcos na sangrenta Batalha de Gallipoli. In one of the days that my parents came to visited me in the Netherlands we decided to spend one day in Delft. This is a city and a municipality in the region of South Holland. It is located close to Rotterdam and The Hague. Delft is known for its historic town centre with canals, Delft Blue pottery (Delftware), the Delft University of Technology, painter Johannes Vermeer and scientist Antony van Leeuwenhoek, and its association with the Dutch royal family, the House of Orange-Nassau.
Once again, it was not the best of days because it was still cloudy and rainy. As you can guess this is not exactly the exception, but considering that we’re in Spring already, it feels a bit annoying that the weather hasn’t really improved yet. All these photos were edited using pixelmator.
One of the things that I liked most about this city is that it reminds me a lot of Brugge (in Belgium). I am saying this not only in regard to the buildings themselves (as you can see in these photos), but also in regard to the general layout of the city. However, there is only one Brugge (in my opinion). The architecture of this city is without a doubt its highlight. I must say that this city is even more pretty that Leiden itself, which is already a really pretty city. It felt like Delfthad more historical buildings, so to speak. I just felt is was more beautiful.
The only thing disappointing about this city is its churches. Well, this something quite disappoint throughout the whole country actually. Because they are a country of protestants, their churches are not exactly the same as those in Catholic countries; and it’s not like they had a Gothic or a Baroque period. I feel like that their churches are not really worth the visit, unless they are free of charge.

E hoje deixamos de parte o mundo das casas de moda, e entramos no mundo das marcas (ou aquilo que podemos chamar de marcas “normais” – se bem que eu não sei mesmo o que lhes chamar). Esta é claramente uma excepção, não só por este detalhe, mas também pelo facto de existir muito pouca informação sobre esta marca. Mas sem mais demoras, hoje apresento-vos a nova colecção de Primavera/Verão d’A Détacher.
Once more we are back in the fashion world. Today we leave aside the world of fashion houses and we enter the world of labels (or what we can call the “normal” brands – I am really not sure what to call it, though). This is clearly an exception, not only because of this detail, but also because of the lack of information on the brand itself. But without further ado, today I present you guys the A Détacher’s new Spring/Summer collection.
“A Détacher is a clothing label, a store, and a selection of objects and art. It is the project/business of Monika Kowalska. A Détacher clothes are individual explorations into surface, form and function – a research into the formal posture of each garment.” (x)

Esta é uma colecção bastante primaveril e provavelmente uma das minhas favoritas. Continua a existir um destaque no uso de cores neutras, mas em vez de este ser dado ao preto e branco (que ainda se mantém), ele foi colocado em cores como o castanho, amarelo, azul e rosa. Também temos de dar destaque ao uso de padrões (conjuntos 1, 2, 3, 13, 14, 17 e 18). Por último, temos o use de malhas (como nos conjuntos 8 e 9) e o uso de bikinis inspirados nos anos 50. Eu considero que esta colecção é bastante simples mas lindíssima.
This is a collection with a very clear Spring vibe and it is probably one of my favourites. There is still a big highlight on the use of neutral colours, even though it changed from the black and white (that are still broadly used), to other colours such as brown, yellow, blue and pink. We also need to highlight the constant use of patterns (outfits 1, 2, 3, 13, 14, 17 and 18). Finally, we have the use of knit in pieces of clothing (as in the outfits 8 and 9) and the use of bikinis inspired in the 1950s. I think that this is a very simple collection yet absolutely beautiful.

With my parents here for their Easter holiday, it was time to take a break from my thesis and do some traveling. In the next few weeks I will then be posting a couple of posts about the cities I visited (some new around here, others not so much) and with photos that I took too. I will start with Rotterdam, a city that I had previously visited in February (you can see the post I made about it here), and that I decided to show to my parents. It wasn’t the best day in terms of weather. It was cloudy and rainy sometimes, so the photos aren’t at their best level. They were consequently edited with pixelmator.
We started by visiting the new Market Hall (or “Markthal” in Dutch), which is a residential and office building with a market hall underneath – hence its designation. This market hall was opened on the 1st of October by Queen Máxima of the Netherlands. This building comprises 288 apartments, a 4600 m2 market space, a 1600 m2 horeca (this is an abbreviation that means hotel/restaurant/café) and 4-storey parking garage. As you can see from the photos of the market (the first ones), the highlight goes to its ceiling which is absolutely beautiful and amazing. It was painted by Arno Coenen. This is a market worth visiting; that’s for sure. It has fruit/vegetables stands, flower stands, cookies/chocolate stands and several restaurants or smaller stands selling food. Everything looks amazing and I am sure they taste even better.
Next to the market we have the famous Rotterdam cube houses (or “Kubuswoningen” in Dutch). They are apparently famous but we just happened to see them because we decided to walk around the market. These houses were created by Piet Blom who decided to tilted the cube of a conventional house 45 degrees, and rested it upon a hexagon-shaped pylon. These houses are located on Overblaak Street, right above the Blaak Subway Station.
I saw this challenge on Jota’s blog and I thought it would be an interesting thing to do here. I’m sure there’s a lot we can say about someone from their phones; not sure what that means in my case. Maybe you guys can draw some conclusions on that.
As you can see, I have an iPhone; more precisely an iPhone 4s. He is new and old at the same time. Is new because I’ve only got it since Christmas but it is old because it’s a second-hand phone. It came in such perfect conditions (not a single mark or scratch or anything else) that I ask myself if it was ever used before. Its battery is not the greatest thing ever but none of their batteries are great, so this is nothing new. I couldn’t be happier with my new toy, to be honest.
This has been my lock screen since ever. I have the same photo on my iTouch too. They are one of the best trios we’ve ever had in the team and that photo is one of my favourites of them. Is one of the cutest photos of the team, to be honest. My home screen hasn’t always been this one. That photo was one of the first I took with my phone in Lisbon, when I went back home for Christmas. It’s a good permanent reminder of home and I really like this photo.
I don’t think my apps are that unusual. I try not to have too much on my phone, so it doesn’t occupy too much space. I do have a problem with organisation so I’ve put the apps according to their categories (more or less). There is alway some connection between them and each screen has a main theme (more or less too).
The social media and tennis apps are probably the ones I use the most, and also the photography ones. That 9292 app is probably one of the best apps there is if you’re living in the Netherlands. It gives up up-to-date info on any public transport within the country. It works both for buses and trains.
Hoje é tempo de fazermos mais uma visita ao mundo da moda. Esta nunca foi uma marca que me chamou muito à atenção, mas nos últimos anos tenho-me apaixonado pelas suas colecções. E a deste ano não é uma excepção. Assim deixem-me apresentar-vos a nova colecção de Primavera/Verão da Miu Miu.
Today is time for another trip to the world of fashion. This was never a brand that caught much of my attention, but I have been falling in love with its collections in the past couple of years. And this year’s is not an exception. Let me present you guys the new Miu Miu’s Spring/Summer collection.
Once more, we’re are in the presence of an exception, compared to what I’ve been posting since I started this Spring/Summer rubric. This is merely an example of a brand, yet a luxury brand. Miu Miu belongs to Prada and it was created in 1993. Nowadays, it is headed by Miuccia Prada (granddaughter of Mario Prada – the funder of Prada). Known for it’s ready-to-wear and accessories collections, this brand is set to launch its first fragrance in 2015. With boutiques open all over the world, Miu Miu is also present in Portugal since 2012.
Mais uma vez, estamos perante uma excepção aos posts que tenho vindo a publicar. Este é apenas um exemplo de uma marca; marca esta de luxo. A Miu Miu pertence à Prada e foi criada em 1993. Actualmente, esta marca está nas mãos de Miuccia Prada (neta de Mario Prada – o fundador da Prada). Conhecida pelas suas colecções de pronto-a-vestir e de acessórios, está previsto para 2015 o lançamento desta marca no campo da perfumaria. Com boutiques abertas nos quatro cantos do mundo, a Miu Miu encontra-se também presente em Portugal, desde 2012 (podem ver aqui um post referente a esta loja).
O principal destaque vai para a variedade de cores utilizadas nesta colecção: desde os tons mais neutros (como o preto e o branco) e escuros (como o roxo escuro, nos conjuntos 1, 3 e 5), até aos tons mais claros (como o rosa e o branco). A diversidade de padrões é também um das principais tendências (como podem ver nos conjuntos 3, 7, 8, 9, 10 e 12). Para além disto, podemos também encontrar as seguintes tendências: cabedal (conjuntos 1 e 4) e saias de cintura subida (conjuntos 3, 5, 10, 11 e 12). Por último, o uso de tons pastel são apresentados nos casacos dos últimos três conjuntos; casacos estes que são lindíssimos. Estes são sem dúvida as minhas peças favoritas.
