Let they inspire you #12

First of all, I’m sorry for my recent absence from the blog. This past week and a half has been totally crazy. This week is our first exam season. Because our semesters are divided in two blocks, and the 1st block ended last Friday, this is our exam week for the block 1’s modules. Thankfully, I had only two and I’ve already done them. Not sure how they went (and it’s something that I really don’t wanna think about right now), so I’m not gonna discuss it here. I’m just glad that I’ll have the rest of this week to rest before the start of the 2nd block, next Monday. However, I’m really excited about my next block.

Second of all, today I’m bringing you guys another outfit inspiration post. And today’s inspirations are going to be totally different from each other, since the weather in Portugal is totally the opposite of the weather in the Netherlands, now. This is actually really funny. So, while in Portugal it’s sunny and warm (or should I say really hot for Autumn), in the Netherlands we’re in the middle of a tropical storm (Gonzalo). It has rained a lot today (not as much as I thought though), but the worst has been the wind. I guess this is a bit of “welcome to Dutch Autumn”. I took these outfit’s from lookbook’s website.

86th Annual Academy Awards Winners + red carpet looks

And here it is, the moment we’ve all been waiting for. Well, at least for those who have a great passion (or obsession, that will work too) for cinematography. I know all ceremonies are important in their own ways but there’s nothing like the Oscars. I don’t know if it just me (because I only saw two of the films nominated – Dallas Buyers Club and Gravity), but this year’s competition was really tight. With some exceptions, I think that for some categories it was totally unknown, until the last moment, who would be the winner. This year, both “Gravity” and “American Hustle” had the most nominations (10 in total), followed closely by “12 Years a Slave” (with 9 nominations). We can say that these three films were the favourites to win. As for the individuals, both Alfonso Cuarón and Spike Jonze had 3 nominations, making them the favourite ones.

Held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles (USA), this year’s ceremony was hosted by Ellen DeGeneres and produced by Neil Meron and Craig Zadan. I must say I had no expectations about her work as host because I never actually saw the 2007 ceremony. Ellen was brilliant and so funny. I think it actually worked out very well. After all this talk, I here to present you guys the 86th Annual Academy Awards winners.

I don’t have a clear opinion on the winners, since I only watched two of the nominated films. As for the more technical awards, I wasn’t expecting nothing more than Gravity winning it because it is a really good film. As for the rest, I couldn’t be more proud of Jared Leto because he made a beautiful and amazing performance in Dallas Buyers Club. It was a well deserved award. Even though I knew DiCaprio wouldn’t win, there was a little bit of hope in the back of my heart. What do you guys have to say about this year’s winners?

There’s nothing like the Academy Award’s red carpet. This has been one of my favourite years, because in general the looks are really good. I like all the dresses I’m showing you guys, of course ones more than others. However, it’s easy to pick my favourite ones. First of all, Lupita Nyong’o was absolutely stunning and gorgeous. She’s so pretty and that dress was just perfect for her. It’s so simples but so perfect at the same time, and its colours is beautiful. Second of all, Emma Watson who was so beautiful too. I love her dress. Another one that’s really perfect. As for the rest, they had all really good choices, so this was a good year. What do you guys think of this year’s red carpet looks?

Yesterday was time for another film awards ceremony. This Sunday the best in feature-length films and documentaries (broadcasted in the United Kingdom) were awarded with their respective accolades. Awarded by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, these awards are commonly known as BAFTA. I think I don’t have much to say about these winners, considering the fact that I haven’t seen any of the films nominated. I don’t dislike the winners and I’m very happy for Jennifer Lawrence. I’ve yet to see her film but I’m sure she did a brilliant job. I think these winners (and nominees too) proved that these awards ween’t exactly a preview of the Academy Awards, as I said in the beginning of this post. They’re considered to be but I don’t think it was shown this year. What do you guys have to say about this year’s winners?

Honestly, this is one of my least favourite red carpets. With so many good choices for the other ceremonies, I don’t understand why they always disappoint in this one. I’ve seen Amy Adams in betters dresses, even thought this one fits her nicely. Maggie Gyllenhaal is one of those people who can surprise you with their choices, either for the better or worse. For me, this was definitely a bad choice. There’s nothing in her dress that I like, probably apart from it being blue (which is my favourite colour). Eleanor Tomlinson’s dress is quite cute (it seems like I’m talking about a puppy or something but I couldn’t find another word) and it suits her. Sophie Kennedy Clark looks beautiful but I have to admit that I dislike the upper part of her dress. Apart from that, it was a lovely choice. Samantha Barks also looks beautiful. It was a perfect dress for her, even thought I kind of was hoping for something else. Alicia Vikander’s dress is just weird. And through to the last two but by far my favourite red carpet looks of this night. I admit I don’t like (not even a bit) female tuxedos but Angelina Jolie knocked everyone with that look. She looks absolutely beautiful. Lastly, Lupita Nyong’o looks so stunning in that dress. In this award’s season she has been the best for me. Can’t wait to see what she’ll take to the Oscars. What do you guys think of this year’s red carpet looks?

20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards winners + red carpet looks

Following last week’s Golden Globe Awards ceremony, yesterday the finest and best actors and actresses of 2013 were awarded with their respective Screen Actors Guild awards for their outstanding performances in films, TV films, TV series and miniseries. This award (as the rest from the other unions) has a really low media coverage outside of the USA, which I think it’s wrong and bad. Obviously it is not quite important as a Golden Globe or an Oscar but still, it’s an important accolade for both actors and actresses.

And it’s not all. Together with last week’s ceremony, this award ceremony is also seen as a preview of its respective Academy Awards ceremony. Written in English because once again it just felt appropriate, here they are, this year’s 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards winners.

Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture: American Hustle

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role: Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club)
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role: Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club)

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role: Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine)
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role: Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave)

Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture: Lone Survivor

Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series: Game of Thrones

Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series: Breaking Bad
Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series: Modern Family

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series: Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad)
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series: Ty Burrell (Modern Family)
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie: Michael Douglas (Behind the Candelabra)

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series: Maggie Smith (Downton Abbey)
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series: Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep)
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie: Hellen Mirren (Phil Spector)

After the Golden Globe Awards, these winners were quite predictable. However, there were little surprises along the way. And these might be the winners for this year’s Academy Awards ceremony. I thought that Jennifer Lawrence’s several nominations were a guaranteed win but I couldn’t be more wrong. I guess the “best supporting actress” category won’t be that easy to predict for the Oscars. Finally, I’m once again very happy that Jared Leto won, even though I’ve yet to see his film. What do you guys have to say about this year’s winners?

This red carpet never actually does dazzle me and this time it was no exception. I mean, don’t get me wrong because there were some really pretty dresses but the overall is just… not good enough. Elisabeth Rohm’s dress was one of my favourites. The dress itself it’s gorgeous and I really like its pattern. I just love Hannah Simone’s dress. It’s simple yet absolutely beautiful. It’s a fairy tale kind of dress. Amy Adams looked gorgeous on that dress, even though I’m not a big fan of its upper part. The only thing I would change is her hairstyle, I just didn’t like it at all. Lupita Nyong’o looked wonderful once more. I didn’t like the dress’ colour but it was a really good choice for her. And now the top 3 dresses I didn’t like (there’s a lot more but I decided to choose these three). First Jennifer Garner’s dress. It has a good colour but… it’s so boring. I’ll have to admit that I find Cate Blachett’s dress to be quite weird. And that dark pink it’s just not pretty at all. However, I think the worst was Jennifer Lawrence’s dress. I love her and I think she has a good sense of style but this time she just failed miserably. There’s absolutely nothing in that dress that I like. What do you guys think of this year’s red carpet looks?

71st Annual Golden Globe Awards winners + red carpet looks

And the craziness of the awards’ season is officially open. Today starts the first day of many to come, where we’ll find who were the best of the best in 2013. Dating back to the end of January 1944, yesterday we saw yet another Golden Globe Awards ceremony. Despite some episodes of criticism, this is one of the most important accolade for the film industry, this is it without mentioning the Academy Awards (whose awards are given by the film industry), since in this case these awards are given by the critics themselves. Moreover, both its nominees and winners are a sort of preview of the respective Academy Awards ceremony.

Once again, for those who are new to this blog, I have this habit of publishing the winners (as well as some of my favourite looks from the red carpets) of some of the most important award ceremonies in the film industry. I’m sorry for not writing in Portuguese but today I felt like writing in English. And here they are, this year’s winners of the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards!

I must say that I wasn’t expecting this “result” at all. I am not saying this for the film categories, but for the ones for both actors and actresses. First of all, I’m still amazed by the fact that Amy Adams won. I didn’t see that coming. I always thought that Meryl Streep would be the one winning that category. Well, it appears that someone broke the “chain”. Second of all, I’m even more amazed by the fact that Jared Leto won. I don’t know him as an actor but I wasn’t really expecting this outcome. Finally, I’m very happy that both Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio won in their categories. I just wish he’ll be nominated for the Oscars (even though I don’t think he might win, which he clearly deserves). What do you guys have to say about this year’s winners?

71st Golden Globe

71st Golden Globe 2

71st Golden Globe 3

71st Golden Globe 4
There’s nothing quite like the Oscar’s red carpet, so this is like the second best thing. However, there’s always very impressive choices at the Golden Globes. This was one of my least favorite red carpets in the past few years. Don’t get me wrong, there were really good dresses but overall it was a tiny bit disappointing. Even thought I liked Jennifer Lawrence’s dress, I was quite expecting something else; something a lit bit more elaborate. Rocsi Diaz’s dress is nothing that we haven’t seen before but I do really like this type of dresses. Zooey Deschanel is as quirky as always and she looks lovely in this dress. I’m not particularly fond of Kaley Cuoco’s dress pattern but I do like the dress by itself. Lupita Nyong’o looks beautiful but I’m not buying the whole cape thing. I’ve seen Amy Adams in better dresses but this one isn’t that bad. It’s super simple and sometimes that’s all they need. And I can say the same for Emma Watson. I’ve seen better but this unusual dress really caught my attention. And Mila Kunis too. After she wore that green dress for the 2011‘s ceremony, I’ve been expecting a lot better choices from her. Olivia Wilde’s choice was just perfect for her. What do you guys think of this year’s red carpet looks?
